Zachary Allen Hunter, 37, has been implicated in multiple bank robberies in the National Capital Region, according to members of the Fairfax County Police Department, who announced his arrest on Thursday, Dec. 29.

According to police, shortly before 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 28, Hunter entered the Wells Fargo Bank branch on North Point Village Center in Reston, where he implied he had a firearm and passed a note to a teller demanding cash.

He then left the bank and fled in a Mercedes sedan, investigators said, prompting the department to launch an extensive search for him on local highways and area roadways.

While investigating, an off-duty officer heard the sirens and began monitoring his radio, officials said. He then saw the Mercedes turn down Lincoln Lane in Tysons, but the vehicle did not exit.

Officers then worked together and tracked Hunter to the area, where he was found slouched inside the vehicle. He was taken into custody without further incident.

During the investigation into Hunter, it was determined that he may be connected to multiple bank robberies throughout the region, and additional charges could be pending as police in Fairfax County continue to collaborate with other nearby agencies.

Hunter was charged this week with one count of robbery. He is being held without bond. The money he stole was also recovered, though investigators made note that no firearm was ever recovered.

It is unclear how much money was taken in the robbery.

The incident remains under investigation.
